Best breed for meat?

Any pics by any chance?

Not very revealing as far as her size but she is might thick and dense. Not CX big and slightly lighter than my Red Rangers were at her age but she is good and heavy.

I’ve never done meat birds before! I was thinking about starting it this spring... maybe. I did once tell @Brahma Chicken5000 a while back that if I ever had a broody that I’d get the hen some CX to raise... I forgot about it  If I have a broody this spring, I’ll see if I can get some CX chicks from TSC. Knowing me though I’ll get too attached and end up keeping them until they die. :gig

I got my first meat birds in the spring years ago when I got my first chickens ever at TSC. When it came time to process them it was hot and humid and I will never get CX in spring again unless its to keep them alive for breeding. It's no fun to process them in the heat with the flies at their peak population.
Now those were my first meat birds ever so processing came with mistake after mistake as I was in a deep sweat with a cloud of flies arriving trying to get at my carcass.

Yikes!

I did 2 of my batches in the spring. Butchered early in the morning and done by 10. Flies got bad on the second one. I did it later in the spring/summer and flies are nasty.

Raising layers now. Not going to make enough meat from the cockerels. Trying to figure this one out for this year. Grocery store birds sound like a good idea until it is eating time.

Early in the spring, have to keep the chicks warm. In the summer, have to keep the adults cool. End of summer sounds like a good plan. Warm early and cool later. Just have to time in amongst all the family plans.
