I don't have the the desire to learn incubating and would rather ust add a few hens to my flock to try to get a few natural hatches this spring/summer. Which breed is know for its broodiness and ability to successfully hatch eggs?

Silkie's are some of the best moms. Buff Orpington would be my second choice for broodiness, then closely followed by Delaware's. There are several more, but it has been my experience these are THE best broodies.

I agree with silkies. My bantam cochins were awesome broodies as well.

Most people use Silkies, but to my experience Shamos are the best moms. . . But the chances someone will have, buy, or consider a Shamo are reeeaally rare. Yay me for being in the minorities.

I had a partridge rock that was a great broody and a light brahma when I was a kid.
