Best breeds for both laying and eating

A buddy of mine told me Rhode island reds are the best breed for both laying and being able to eat as well does anybody else have any suggestions as to which breeds would be best for this

Most of the dual purpose, heritage breeds should be good for that. RIR, Barred Rock, White Rock, Buff Orpington, Black Australorp, Wyandotte, etc. I'd recommend just getting a bunch of breeds.
