what would be the best breed to choose for a broody? I live in Colorado and we get into the low 100f in summer and low teens in the winter with snow so that would need to be taken into consideration.
What do you think?

Light Brahma, dark Cornish, are my favs. I like Australorps, too, but they don't get broody as easily as the LB's and DC's. The buff Orpingtons I've had, (I've had a couple dozen) did not brood, except for one, who brooded ONCE, despite all the great PR. They are nice hens, but don't bet the farm on them going broody. Here's a cool link with a helpful chart of many, many breeds.

well i have owned brahmas silkies and cochins and i would say that silkies have always been better broodies and all are good mothers but the silkies just seem to know what they are doing.
