Best chicken breeds for pets?

Hi all,
I'm looking to start my own flock of chickens soon, (raising them from chicks of course) Not really an egglaying breed, more of a docile, friendly breed that enjoys human attention. I've heard silkies are the 'lap birds' of the chicken breed world. What are everyone else's experience with this breed? Or does anyone have any recommendations on other breeds that you think make good pet chickens?

Yes silkies are Top notch lap birds! Unfortunately our weather's to harsh where I live so we have polish crested as lap birds of our flock instead, they are crack ups! And our bantam Cochin who is the most people docile bird ive ever met then you have large breed chickens who are just spoiled and jealous babies who try to steal attention, aka my Delawares aaaaaalllll the time

I would look into Salmon Faverolles.

Really? I have a buff orpington hen and she doesn't really like to be held or appreciates attention at all.

Mine BEG to get in my lap. But I did spend lots of time when they were chicks to get them accustomed to human interaction

I really want some silkies! I was thinking about building a separate little coop next to my bedroom and getting some! I already have eight large breed chickens. Hope you post some pics when you get your little ones!

Oh ok! I bought mine as a 4-5 month old and she never got attention so I'm sure that is part of the reason
