Best chicken breeds for pets?

Brahmas and Orps every time for me....always been such big, daft, friendly girls and my best cockerel ever was an Orp (in my avatar) He would sit in my lap for hours being snuggled and having his wattles stroked <3

Plus id definitly go whith Cackle for shipped chicks, ive ordered from all but Murray as far as most popular online hatcheries go, and while you need to order weeks ahead of time for Cackle and it takes a few days to hear back, they have the healthiest and best surviving shipped chicks ive found :) just got 15 Americauna from them a week back to pick breeding stock from, and they gave me black, splash, white and blue and everyone survived including the two extras no problem! Plus another set of 15 I had delivered in awful winter only lost 3 chicks by/immediately post arrival. probably due to prolonged cold exposure even though they gave extras and a heat pack, so not their fault :)

You should look into D’Uccles
They are a true bantam that are feathered legged, have a muff, and vulture hocks
They are very sweet and love snuggles
They also have such sweet little chirps

D’Uccles have quite a few variety’s
They are all really beautiful especially Mille fleur

They also produce quite tiny little eggs
And not a lot

Also are you thinking of starting with hens or chicks or pullets

Oh that's good to hear! Waiting is so hard, (At least for me) I can get 15 chicks for only $81.00

The only silkies I've ever had were both roosters, and meaner than sin lol. I've always found buff Orpingtons to be super sweet and snuggly. But there are sooo many different breeds who are docile and affectionate you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a friendly breed :)

Lol! Are most silkie roosters friendly?

I believe they are. Everybody says they're little sweeties. :D I got mine as adults and they were awful, but who knows how they were raised before I got them. It did kinda make me leery of the breed though lol
