Best chickens to raise

We have 8 kiddos from 22 to 10 what breed of chickens would be the best to raise? My kids would love to feed and just hang out with them.

I suggest to get an assortment, and your Kiddos will enjoy them. I only keep chickens as pets, and done this over 20 years now. Small flock, and only eat the eggs, not the chickens.. I also only keep hens, and currently 5 are bantams. All my chickens live long lives. Longest went 13 years. I currently have one geriatric hen that is on Social Security , and no longer lays eggs. Other hens are already in different stages of age, and some lay very rarely.
If you do decide to get from a hatchery, opt for a mixed assortment. You may specify hens only, if you cant keep roosters, like myself.
Different people will have different suggestions, but there is no perfect breed. Chickens will have their own temperaments individual to themselves.
If you enjoy colorful eggs, then get a few Easter Eggers. I had 3 at one time, and each produced different color.
