We have three hens right now. Have been proud chicken owners for about 9 months now. Have a Plymouth, Leghorn, and a Silkie. Such a weird combo, especially with the colors: grey stripes, white, and black.

I was wondering what's a good bag of commercial feed I could buy. The silkie's eggs were rather delicate last time. Just want to buy a few big bags and save money.

I suggest to ask at local feed store counter for a 50# bag of "layer feed". Should be 15-18% protein and 3% calcium. Cost $16 and will last 3 laying birds 2 months.

I don't know about your birds but mine toss crumble form onto ground then don't eat it. For less waste, for my birds anyway, I use pellet form.
