I like the idea of my Catalanas. I do not have any real experience with them yet. We will see but . . . .
They should be pretty quick to mature, they have a good reputation as layers, they should have a little extra meat on the extra males, they have a light undercolor, they are active and alert (and mine are not particularly flighty), and should be pretty durable. I expect them to tolerate our heat and humidity well. They need some work, but I think I have something to work with.
They are on the heritage list, whatever that is worth. They are rare, and I think an overlooked breed. I think they are good looking birds.
I picked up a few pullets two weeks ago. They laid 15 nicely shaped large eggs in the last seven days. This is in January a week after the stress of a move. Maybe they are happy to move south, LOL.
