Best duck to eat??

Scovies here too. Yes they are broody you could end up with 2-3 hatches with around 15 eggs each time, sometimes even more eggs.
Just keep up with clipping the females wings, my neighbor just had a good old time chasing one of my girls down. Boy did she get in trouble with her drake for taking off.

Excellent- sounds like everyone agrees scovies are the best. When do you butcher them? Is there a certain age when the meat is better? Since they do fly are they nervous? Thanks everyone there isn't very often you get a post everyone agrees on.

As always the younger the bird the more tender the meat. What do you mean nervous? mine would be afraid of nothing which tends to make it easy to catch them the FIRST time! Other than the age the feather condition is important as when to butcher them. Usually when they first completely feather out is best. If they are in the process of replacing feathers you can spend all afternoon picking pin feathers out of the plucked bird. If you haven't butchered ducks before be warned that plucking them isn't like plucking chickens. When you get close to the butcher date post again asking "how to pluck a duck?" ~gd

I just noticed, you really keep a Gator Snapper for a PET? Doesn't it try to bite?

not turtlie. so far s/he only has a 5-6in shell length. AS long as i pick the turtle up at the backhalf of the shell i am safe. Of course not a beginner turtle. By the way my kids no better and dont touch the turtle or anywhere close. THe tank is in the basement. I also have a plan for when it gets to big. I have friends in Florida that have a "alternative" farm and would take it. Oh and it eats live fish and about any piece of meat tangling in front of it.
