Best Egglayers

Hi Kevin.....
My first egg was a soft shell and then all ok. Now just lg eggs and once in awhile a dble yolk.
If you go to Lowe's in W.Wareham..... they sometimes have groups of lumber that they sell cheaply. I know we did that. We have 2 coops. First one DH built entirely from wood he had left over in our cellar. The 2nd one we bought the lumber at Lowe's.
I had looked around too for a shed to convert with no luck. I even check CL with no luck. In this area I don't think there's anything cheap.
Best to use a simple design. Our second coop is 8 x 8 so we didn't have any waste. Good luck. If I hear of anything I'll let U know.

I hate to say it, but the red sex links are THE BEST! My hatchery that I buy from calls them Golden Buffs......I have two and those are the best darn little layers I've ever seen! I get an egg a day faithfully, and as they've aged to almost a year old now, the eggs have gotten larger. And they're only about 4 lbs too so they don't eat all that much like one of the heaver breeds would......

That's what I would get.

Good luck to you!

I have a Black/Lavender split project orp who lays at least 10 eggs straight before she takes a 1 day break. She's also apparently got some Ameracauna in her genetic makeup somewhere, because the eggs are a pretty light sage green. My CM lays 5-6 per week and my Ameracauna lays 5 per week. My other project orp just started laying a pretty light olive colored egg. But, I'll bet she'll be just as prolific as her sister. I'd bet at least some of your customers would be tickled to get some colored eggs. You should try at least a few EE's for that. From what I've heard they can be pretty prolific layers too. I think sometimes it depends on the individual bird as much as the breed.
Hey, KMoranJr1, my husband grew up in Wareham and still has a lot of family there. Do you know any of the Silva family from Blackmore Pond Rd?

Thats what I did. I looked for large winter layers and got the right mix. out of 30 girls in big coop I get over 2 dozen a day. In my small coop which has Faverolles and Spitzhauben it seems they are all laying. I need more customers I have so many eggs my kitchen looks like an egg factory. My 8 EE girls lay about 5-6 eggs a day. The light brown leghorns lay everyday. My sussex not so much but they are beautiful. I would say for white eggs it would be the leggies and spitzhaubens lay everyday.
