Best feed?

I used to buy the primo-deluxe, high-dollar, kosher-organic feed for my chickens.
Then I got smart, and now I buy whatever the local feed store has.
I buy layer pellets for my layers and chick starter for my babies.
I do always give them all the kitchen scraps and they get multi-vitamins in their water.
I also sprinkle Brewers Yeast in their feed.
They free range, so they have all the bugs and greenery they can eat, so I don't have to worry about buying high-dollar feed.

However, IF you are showing birds, then you'll want to feed a higher protein "show" feed to those chickens.
I no longer have time to show my birds, but I still feed all of my Silkies chick starter just because of the higher protein.
I think the Silkies feather better with the higher protein.

Feed whatever fits into your budget and give 'em plenty of table scraps.
