Am now in the planning stage for getting some stealth turkeys

and have settled on midget whites as best for our needs so am now looking into the best hatchery to order some from.

Did a search of hatcheries and McMurray have them but are a bit pricy and Welp have them but have never heard of them before. I have heard good things of Cackle hatchery but they dont have the midget whites.

Who do you recomend for midget whites? I dont mind paying the extra price if they are good birds and a min. order of 15 can be handled as well so its just finding the best hatchery to order from and thought you all could help with that

Oh, and when do I need to order by? I do know turkeys are spring and summer layers so understand that the hatcheries are out of turkey poults right now but when should I start trying to put in an order? I dont want to miss out on them.

Thanks heaps

Ideal has them and their minimum is 10. I think they only have them for a short time, like late spring and early summer.

ETA: Nature's Hatchery also has them. Everyone has about the same price, so I'm guessing that is the going rate unless you can find a local breeder who will sell them for less.

Poults only for now, had to sell my bator when we moved over from Ireland. Different power you see and now am missing it dreadfully

as we loved hatching chicks!

Do any hatcheries sell sexed poults? All I am seeing are straight run so just wondered. Looking at the price of poults and adults I think selling grown birds as breeding trios might be better value for money than eating them lol

While I've never bought turkey poults from a hatchery, I have bought Cornish X chicks from Welp. Their prices are usually very good and, at least with the Cornish, they don't charge extra for shipping.

When I was looking for a few additional Midget White turkeys I searched on a site called Local Harvest. I found a list of local people who raise MW's and wound up buying week old poults from someone an hour away for much less than the hatcheries charge. This allowed me to purchase just 6 poults, plus I was able to see the parent birds. Another bonus is that buying locally helps sustain our "neighbor" farmers. If you're interested, I think the website is localharvest.org... you can search by geographic areas.

Good luck with your turkeys. This was my first year raising them and they've been so much fun!

I bought Midget Whites from Welp this spring. I ordered them in January and they arrived in late April (my order was pushed back a few weeks due to the number of orders). I actually received 16. Two of them died within the first week. The rest of them are healthy and happy. I would order from Welp again. If you order, you should order as early as you can.

I got 10 MW in Feb from Ideal. They came with 10 packing peanuts (chicks) and were very healthy. I am very pleased with them. I think I ordered mine in Dec to make sure I got them.
They chase people all over the yard wanting food.

I'm on the waiting list at Ideal for my midget whites.

Since I live close to them, I always get my shipments no later than the day after hatch.

I can't wait for my turkeys.
