Best Hatchery?

Hoovers Hatchery. When i ordered chicks from there, all the breeds were the best quality they could be, and they didn't have any defects. I'd also like to add that hoovers Hatchery chicks come from small local farms.

I made an order with Meyers hatchery and forgot it was too late in the year for me to have the chicks . I called them and they instantly refunded my money in my opinion the are true blue .

We have ordered 16 chicks from My Pet Chicken with 0 deaths and only one sexing mistake which they refunded. We haven't had a bad experience with them after 4 orders. We ordered two started pullets from Murray McMurray and things went well with them too. I think if we had a local hatchery I would prefer that to shipping, but even though we are far away from MPC we are very close to the USPS distribution center so we get our chicks overnight every time, which is a function of our distance from our main mail annex. In all other metrics I think we have had good experiences with MPC from changing the numbers/types of chicks pre-shipment to requesting a refund for our cockerel.

Any opinion on the highest quality hatchery?

so,“Quality” is a subjective term.

for a hatchery, what does “quality” mean to you?

ALL large hatcheries will provide you with a correct order and good customer service generally. All hatcheries have negative reviews, of course -it’s the internet and everyone has an opinion.

or, is “quality” a term you are using for the chicks...and what does that mean to you? Show quality? Egg quality/color/quantity? Size? Etc?

however, the best hatchery is going to be the one you can get what you want quickly...and picking up in person is always better than USPS handling of at all possible. If shipped, then the shortest time in transit is best. With that in mind, I’m in Ohio, 3 hours from Meyer hatchery. My one shipped Meyer order took 3 days to arrive and all chicks DOA. other shipped orders I’ve gotten from several states away arrived within 17-48 hours. But, Meyer chicks that I’ve picked up In person have been healthy, and good quality. My usual hatchery is a smaller one and I always pick up in person. I use that hatchery bc it is only 1.5 hours away from me and they have a good selection for me.
