Best (healthiest) Feed

My birds free ranged all spring and summer and now that the cold has set in they are in their enclosed run. I haven't been super impressed with the yolk color I have been getting. We have been feeding them the local tractor store brand feed. I was wondering what the best commercial feed is? Healthiest, best quality ingredients, etc. Any suggestions?

Greens/grass will help with yolk color. I am using alfalfa pellets and our yolks are very dark yellow. The pellets are large so I make a mash in the morning...soak the alfalfa in hot water, add some Flock Raiser and other things (cooked pinto beans/blackeyed peas and whatever needs to be cleaned out of the frig).

I plan on buying a bale of Alfalfa this weekend to throw in the run. Will supply greens as well as ground cover for them...
