I'm super frustrated with my flock right now. I've got 20 hens and I'm only getting 8 or 9 eggs per day. I'm doing everything right according to what I know - plenty of space, good quality feed and plenty of it, bugs and plants to eat, lights on through the winter, etc etc... My plan was to sell eggs but I feel like all I'm doing right now is buying feed. I think I'm ready to process my roos and sell my hens from this rag tag crew and start over. I'm looking for a heritage breed that is known for good egg production. I don't care much about temperament, these won't be pets. I'd like good foragers to help cut down on feed costs. Breeds in demand for hatching eggs would be nice as well but not a requirement. Any recommendations on breeds to consider?
