Back when I was a kid I was fortunate enough to grow up on a small farm . We had lottsa chickens , rabbits , geese , ducks , coupla pigs cows and horses . But I loved them chickens and rabbits . We had about fifty chickens of different varieties . Everything from bantys to australorps . We'd let them free range during the day and at night they'd roost in the coop . Well one day my mom said " have you seen that lil black banty hen lately " " no ma'am , I said . Not lately " Bout that time that ol banty come strolling in from out the woods . She went straight to the water . Mama said " that banty is setting boy . Follow her when she goes back out ." So I did and she led me to a bush about fifty yards away where she had a clutch of eggs she was sittin on . Went back and told mama . She said " now go on out to the coop and get as many big brown eggs as you can . Then go see that banty and swap her eggs out with the brown ones " Well i had about twenty eggs so off I went . By the time I was done getting pecked on and swappin them eggs , that poor hen had to spread her wings to cover that new clutch of eggs . Sure enough bout three weeks later that proud mama brought her new brood to the yard . They were all big chicks compared to her , fuzzy black and white australorps and lil brown rhode island reds . Bantys are the best incubators ever.....
