So, I'm lazy and don't want to go through all the posts on this thread.... Could you all just tell me if you have an awesome incubator - what is the best one in your opinion; and why... I want to start incubating but I would like to have a tried and tested incubator. Also, is there a good book on this subject or do you just go for it? Thank you!!

I've only dealt with Brinsea and Little Giant. Brinsea wins by 200%. They're a lot more expensive, but will give better hatch rates, esp if you're a beginner. I have the Brinsea Octagon Eco 20. It holds 20 eggs.
I used a Little Giant twice and the rates were horrid. They also require a lot more attention than Brinsea. It held 40 eggs.
There are all sorts of threads on BYC for different I incubators. @scflock knows a ton about Brinsea Octagon, and @Amylynn# knows a lot about Little Giants.
Good luck!

Brinsea if money is no object. If you want "almost as good" for a lot less money. look at the GQF Genesis - under $200 for automated everything and 42 egg capacity. Cutler Supply is the cheapest I've found, plus they have outstanding service. They sell all the major brands.

I would not recommend a cheaper styro incubator, if you can't afford even a Genesis, then consider building your own. A decent homemade one will hold temps much better than the cheaply made styro ones.

Thank you dheltzel... some friends of ours got one (don't know which brand) and they said it was worthless. So I just thought I would go to the 'experts'! Have had Red Stars for the last 2 years but want to switch to Orps so that they will be broody and hatch some for me. But figured I might need an incubator at some point also. Thanks again. :)

Hi everyone, sorry to hijack this thread. I'm new to all this!! :)
Does anyone have any feedback on this incubator? I would appreciate any feedback!! Thanks

I use the Little Giant 9200 styrofoam. I have great hatches and I get no sleep during the hatch in order to have good hatches

...lol I wouldn't say styrofoam was useless. But I would never recommend the Little Giants (especially the newer models.) The hoverbator is a decent styrofoam. I have to agree though, if you can afford it- Go Brinsea. especially if you are a busy person. I never recommend mini incubators cause I'm too well aware of chicken math...lol
