Best large hatchery for true to type?

My most interesting salmon Faverolles pullet from Ideal is Bebe. She has a solid black breast.

I think that in the breed descriptions of the birds on Ideals site, they all basically say that they are not garunteed to be show birds. If you wanted show birds, you shouldv'e gotten them from a breeder.

Hi Just to throw my two cents in, I have used IDEA for over 5 years with multiple orders each year. I have started raising pullets for the Dallas market about three years ago and buy most of what I sale from them. I can hatch my own (I have two GQF 1202s going) but it is easier to keep the chicks coming from them. I have never had any problems from any chicks that were shipped from them. I order normally on their web site. Raising pullets could be a full time job if I let it . Thanks Johnny

Is welp a hatchery or a middle man?

On the first page of this thread, Welp hatchery was mentioned; I hadn't looked at them before so I clicked on the link.
The first thing I looked at when I got there was to see their GLW and I noticed that its the same pic used by Privett.
Privett claims that their pics are of their birds.

Then I noticed that Welp lists New mexico as one of their shiping origins; Privett is located in New mexico.

So, is Welp just selling other peoples chickens?

For the record, my chickens came from privett via the feed store, I have no complaints.

Here are two of my Red Pyle Moderns from Ideal. All of them are very healthy and the same size but four of the five came out like Leggs, he has a little orange in him but you can barley see it.

Cornelius was the only one to feather out true to type.

So like I said earlier if it is type you want your best bet is to find a breeder. If you are not worried about it then I love both Ideal, Murray and Cackle hatcheries.

Hi,
Does anyone order from Stromberg's?
They seem to have very good prices that include shipping, wow!
Heard it mentioned, tried to do a search on here for info on them but didn't turn up any comments.
Thanks for any info.

I suggest buying from a breeder that has the breed you want or from smaller hatcheries, like Sandhill Preservation.........I've ordered from large hatcheries and sometimes you get good true to type birds and sometimes you don't and in some shipments some are and some are not.

The Hatchery in idaho is Dunlop.. they have nice birds, but I agree with most you are better buying from a breeder, either birds or hatching eggs

Good Luck in your quest...
