best layers and are any available?

What are the best layers? I'm in Kentucky and would like to build up my flock of layers before spring (it would be great if I had more laying by then). I have 6 new comets that are almost 7 months old and not laying yet. All the other comets I've ever gotten start laying early and lay almost every day! Is it a bad time of year to buy chicks if I even can find them?

jsut checked them because they are in favorites and that is where I got mine.

meyer has quite a few still available, some breeds are sold out. I'm sure other places have them too, just might not have all breeds available.
