Hi there,
My chickens have lice, so I’m wondering what the best treatment is over here in the UK?
I’m looking for something that’s easy to apply or that I can put in their water as I have 14 birds, and don’t want to be trying to use powder.
I know it’s lice as they have the eggs on their feather shafts and I can see pale flat insects crawling around on them.
Thank you!

Hello @Pebbles25 .

I've tried various things in years past. Picking off the nit clumps with your fingernails works. Smothering any you can't get off with petroleum jelly (Vaseline) also works. If you provide a nice dustbath or let them make their own, I find they keep themselves largely free of adult ectoparasites. I add bonfire ashes to the dustbath periodically. Others dress their dustbath with sulphur dust or diatomaceous earth.

I use this. It's a permethrin spray essentially.

There is also this, but it's a cream so probably only useful for the vent area.

Sulfur powder works and can with a bit of messing around be applied with a puffer, or brush.
Oh thank you will look into it!
