What do you all recommend for meat birds. I have a cornish rock hen and am looking for some ideas for more meat birds. Fresh chicken tastes alot better and juicer than any store bought chicken that I have ever eaten. Any ideas will be appreciated.

cornish crosses from mount healthy are really good meat birds. The judges at the fair always like how they have nice yellow legs. Last year my three got best market chickens and then I got reserve grand champion. The rest of the birds I had at home had really wide breast that carried back nicely. These birds will be ready faster than any other bird you"ll raise.

It depends upon what you like.

My family likes breast meat and won't eat legs. So I need a bird with the meat in the breast and not in the legs and thighs. Also we eat chicken fried and barbecued, so I need a chicken that can be butchered young. That makes the Cornish Cross work well for me.

I butchered some five month old white rocks last weekend. Those birds were absolutly amazing

. The meat was literally fall off the bone tender. I'm doing five more this weekend. Alls we did is pick the meat off the birds and freezed it for later cooking.
