I came across this company that sells poultry fencing and welded wire. I ordered enough to make a 6 foot by 12 foot run, cover the coop windows, and surround 100 feet of my garden. All for the same price of 1- 50 foot roll at any given home store. Just want to pass it on since fencing is so expensive. http://www.zorotools.com/g/00056560/k-poultry%20fencing/ Hope it saves you some $.

Only 1/2 inch hardware cloth will keep out rats and weasels which kill chickens. Raccoons and dogs can tear through chicken wire easily- so it is OK for a run that you aren't expecting to be predator proof (my runs aren't predator proof), but for those coop windows you gotta have that hardware cloth. I use welded wire fencing for my fence and chicken wire to keep the chickens out of blueberries and garden crops.

Fortunatly, the worst predators around here is a household cat next door. but he's only out at night when the chickens will be locked in the coop. But, some day we plan on moving out a little more rural. Then I will definatly go with the hardware cloth. I guess saving a few bucks isn't always the best route. Thanks
