Best rat bait

Rats are easy to identify natives from imports, just like mice.

If they have a mostly naked tail > Norway

If they have a pretty furry tail > native > most likely wood rat. Either will infest sheds/barns

Good luck

Here's an idea that doesn't involve poison at all. Get a sheet rock bucket, fill 1/3rd with water. 2 inches above the water spread a line of peanut butter around the inside of the bucket. Drill a 1" or 2" hole in the lid of bucket and close tightly. The mice go in to get peanut butter, fall in the water and drown.

This will sound dumb, but what is a sheet rock bucket and where do you get one? Mice and rats do not, I 've read, live together but we have a mouse problem in the house, too!!!! EEEEk! Our cats think they're pets....

MissPrissy has a great recipe for rat bait. You can do a search for it but I believe she mixes powered sugar with Plaster of Paris. When they eat it they will go find water and it will turn hard in their guts and kill them.

Mania, you can find them at any construction site, or just find a large bucket with a lid...maybe about a foot or two high.

I have a BIG rat after my chicks and feed.
Nothing beats the old wooden rat trap baited with Peanut Butter. I plan to nab one or two myself.

I hate poisons and I hate traps can't stand to get anywhere near a rodent , they are my personal phobia. The best thing I have found is cats and lots of them, of course I live in the country with no close neighbors for my cats to bother. One of my greatest fears is a rodent in the feed barrel, I remember my brother and his friend used to hunt them in the barn with pellet rifles.

I made the plaster of paris and powdered sugar and put in the holes and covered them with boards/rocks to protect our pets and then put some more in a closed cat carrier in the building. I didn't think it helped- Then I saw the BIG rat at the little building so I bought some rat poison chunks that the feed store folks said was safer if the dead rat happened to be ingested second hand- I again tossed the the poison down the holes and covered them. Gee it stinks now out at the Main building- but at the "real" poisoned building it doesn't smell...yet.I haven't seen the rat though. I saw a mouse in the garage- I will be making up some more sweet plaster of paris and feeding mickey and minnie there.I just hope they go elsewhere to die.
