True Story! With my first flock (in a different state), I had 8 hens, 0 Roos, and four of my hens (cuckoo Marans, silkie and silver Sebright bantam) always had at least one of my nesting boxes at 'no vacancy' at any given day of the week with their little broody backsidesYou will never have a bunch of chicks running around, no matter what rooster you have, unless one of your hens goes broody and you allow her to set on eggs for 21 days, or you put eggs in an incubator for the same length if time. That's how long it takes for chicks to develop inside an egg and hatch out. If you don't want chicks, just gather eggs every day and put them in the fridge.

Now, with my current flock of 24 hens plus 4 roosters (one of which is my lone silkie of the entire flock which is how I landed on this thread
