Best Run Substrate, what you use and why?

our chicken run was originally placed on lush green grass however several weeks later the floor of the run is bare soil. my chooks are allowed to free range daily but i would like to find the best way to keep their run clean. Eglu recommends wood chips as a bedding that the chickens will enjoy digging through and many here recommend sand. what do you use and why do you like it?

I use sand because:

1. drains well
2. chicks dust bathe in it
3. cheap
4. easy
5. cleans/scoops well
6. doesn't smell (I add some Sweet PDZ 1x/week)
7. looks nice
