Somehow we didn't notice an extra chick in the mix of 26, until 2 weeks later. We ordered chicks along with 2 other members of my family and took home 8 of the 26. The extra free chick we think is a white cochin. If we want we can take home the white cochin to join our flock of 8 buff orpington chicks. But we don't want another rooster, so if it matures and we find out it's a rooster my brother-in-law will get it. My question is, would it be better to take the chick now at 2 weeks and return it if it's a rooster or later when we can tell if it's a hen? BTW, The group of 18 (19 with white cochin) are all hens. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would take it now, so it can get used to you and you can get used to it. It would also be able to have a chance to establish it's relationship with it's peers. Just my opinion!
