I have a barrel feeder I made with PVC elbows, it sits upon a spare tire to keep it off the ground... luckily I havent had to worry about rodents

I started out with a PVC feeder and found the adult birds would bill out the feed and empty the feeder very quickly. They do that less with the ratproof feeders. The metal is more ratproof than plastic PVC too.

If you do have a bird raking feed with our rat proof feeder you can order the feeder lip extension or just duct tape some cardboard across the front. Just raise up the lip an inch or 1.5" higher. That said it is rare that a hen will rake so much that the stock 1/2" horizontal lip doesn't stop the raking. Or cut a section of chicken wire and plop down on top of the feed. Make them peck for the feed. Feeding mixed feed can cause raking too as they look for treats.

Don't forget to keep your feeder up out of the poop to make it last longer and we do have parts if they are ever needed.
