Hi everyone,

I’m making a post again about a possible issue with my Silkie rooster. Today I noticed tiny bubbles in the corner of his eye and have also heard him sneeze a few times. Otherwise, he’s acting completely normal—eating, drinking, active, no open-mouth breathing or gasping.

I applied some VetRx on his beak (so he smells it), and his eyes look clear now, but since I saw those bubbles and sneezing, I want to be cautious. Does anyone recommend a good Tylosin powder for treating potential respiratory issues? This would be my first time dealing with something like this, so any advice or experience would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Do you have photos of him?

If his eyes look clear and he's not sneezing frequently, then he may have just gotten some debris in the eyes and nostrils.

Sounds like he's doing o.k. if he's not having any issues breathing, eating/drinking and is active.

I would not treat him with an antibiotic unless he has very clear symptoms of respiratory disease. Continuous bubbles in the eyes, facial swelling, mucous, coughing/sneezing/wheezing, etc. are some symptoms that you may see when dealing with disease.

General care is to keep eyes flushed with saline a couple of times a day and then put an ointment like Terramycin in the eyes.

If symptoms are severe, then an antibiotic like Tylosin can help alleviate symptoms of Mycoplasma, but it's not a cure. Tylosin can be ordered online through Jedds if you feel like you need it.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I do not have a picture of his eyes. He definitely looks like he is doing well. I wanted to treat him just in case, but if that’s not recommended unless he evidently has a respiratory infection or more consistent symptoms, then I will just continue to monitor him. Thanks!

If he's doing o.k., then I wouldn't treat.

It doesn't hurt to have some meds on hand if you still wish to go that route.
