So, I've grown plenty of California white softneck garlic here. But I want to grow some other softneck, and hardneck varieties that do well here.

I want to grow more flavorful garlic, like roasting garlic varieties. I fell into the internet hole and found lots of garlic... But it's been hard to figure out what will actually thrive here. I don't want to waste a season growing garlic that's just going to rot in the ground or fizzle out from the warmer early temps.

Anyone with experience growing hardneck and silverskin varieties in zone 9? What are my options? I pickle a lot of garlic.... But I want to pressure can soups and have garlics that hold up.

Thank you!

I decided to grow more softneck. But I am trying 4 new varieties. Inchilium Red, early Italian, Red Toch, and silverwhite.

So far, all of them are growing. Silverwhite has taken the longest to emerge from under the mulch, but it's all starting to come up.

No surprise that early Italian is all up and has two leaves on most plants.

I went with certified seed garlic and planted in late October.

I'm going to attempt Georgian Fire hardneck garlic here in East Texas (zone 9). It's supposed to be very flavorful and has a kick to it. First time growing garlic so fingers crossed!

The reason I went with this kind is because I got a ton of it for free. I think it works better in colder climates but I'll still give it a shot. I'll take any tips!

I have only grown softneck varieties in South Louisiana.I grow them between strawberry plant rows. I am usually late ordering so I get whatever softneck varieties are left :idunno
