So I have about 30 chicks plus some ducks in the two month old range. As they grow, I am thinking I need to upgrade my waterer and feeder, especially to make it through the winter without having to go out multiple times a day. However, the poor reviews on many waterers and heaters is concerning so before I go cough up $100+ on equipment, only to replace it the next year or two, I need some suggestions.

1. Best feeder that I can set on a block and fill from the top. Plastic or other? I want something they won't want to perch on and can't easily be tipped over and that I can carry by a handle if need be. Any particular brand?

2. I am putting water nipples on a 5 gal bucket but need to figure out how to keep this from freezing in the winter. It looks like I can purchase heated stands. Is there a particular one that would work well with a plastic painter's bucket? I am concerned about them pecking at the cord.

3. I also have ducks so I need to provide them with a waterer that is not nippled. I was going to get a ~3 gallon waterer to sit on a block so that they don't get as many shavings in the water but I am concerned with the amount of water that will be spilled. Is there a particularly good brand out there? Should I go with plastic or metal? I am seeing a lot of rust problems with the metal so is there a particularly one that is good? Since this will be sitting on a block and then a heater as described above, is there any ones that are particularly good in case they are not 100% level? I would prefer to fill at the top if possible as my current plastic one that comes apart sometimes gets me wet and I cannot imagine that being pleasant in the winter. I also need it to be carried easily as I will have to bring these inside to fill in the winter since we shut off our outdoor faucets.

I am not particularly handy so if there is an easily bought solution over a project, I would be more inclined to do that.

Thank you tons!
