Sometimes they are really not that easy to catch but it worked well for me today to catch him with a fishing net

This is after the fact since you already caught him (good job, btw!), but I just remembered how the old gal that I got my first flock from long ago did it. She had a wire clothes hanger she had stretched out and bent into a hook at one end. She used that hook to snag a chicken around the foot as they ran away from her. She was quite proficient at it.
