I am wanting to know if 4 week chicks still need heat from the top to nestle under or if a draft free coop with an ambient temp of 75 degrees would work. I usually find them at the edge of the tunnel or on top of it anyways. I have a panel heater inside the coop and another in the run. I can add a second panel to the coop if needed.
Thanks!

If they're fully feathered and acclimated to the weather they're ok to be weaned off heat completely in temperatures down into the 40's(F).
Definitely not fully feathered. But I also don't think baby chicks are quite as fragile after watching broody raised chicks in lows of 30's. Lol I was absolutely panicking at times but Orpy did an amazing job of keeping her babies alive.
If 75 F is your lowest temperature, no. I don't know what the minimum temperature for 4 week olds in a draft free coop would be, I'd be OK with 50 F, but I'd be very comfortable with 75 F as either a high or a low for them.
75 degrees would be my target as ambient but not warmer than that. I would start to get worried around 60-65 degrees but good to know I don't have to.

Our temps are now averaging in the 50's during the day. I encourage them to head out in the run but don't force it if they are going right back in. If they do stay out I bring them back up after about 2 hrs.

Different breeds and different batches feather out differently.

I had some Langshans in one batch that weren't very well feathered even at 6 weeks. Fortunately, it was summer in North Carolina.

I'm heading to NC next week to visit my daughter. I really want to move there!
