I just acquired a new silkie cross rooster who is unhappily in his new pad alone while 5 cute ladies are free ranging around him. I want to keep him isolated for awhile but was wondering.
1.
What is the best way to introduce him to the flock? Can he free range with them during the day and go back to his pad at night or will he be too lonely? One of the hens already pecked at him through the chicken wire.
2. If I do try to selectively breed him with one of the ladies how should I introduce them. Her in his pen or vice versa?

thanks
Chris

You might, after keeping him quarantined for a month, keep your hens in pen were they can see all around, then let Roo walk outside of it until all his EXcitement calms down. They will be able to interact w/o hurting anyone. After a day of that they should be fine to keep together.
