i have bantams and large fowl as well... i breed OEGB and for eggs/meat i have giant cochins... since i only have breeding trios and pairs of OEGB they aren't in the flock with the cochins... although another pair of OEGB are with the giants, but soon they will be moved... mutts are fine as well... i might add some silver laced wyandotte hens with them later on...
if you want to propagate for profit and such, i'd invest in a very nice trio or breeding pairs... silkies are cool because people buy them... so shop around for the best looking roo... that way people that are thinking about getting into chickens will enjoy your birds more... and those that already know about them, will easily buy a good looking healthy bird...
