Best winter poop scraper

do you mean to get *ice* out of waterers (safest solution: have two sets and if one waterer ices up real bad, bring it into the house to thaw) or just to clean gunk out of waterers (solution: dollar-store brush-on-a-handle like you'd use for washing dishes in your sink)

Problem is the days are so short here I leave work and it's dark and I come home and it's dark and they're roosting. So I have 2 waterers but swapping them is pointless as the girls are asleep after I get home.

So the problem is *ice*, then?

Why not just take the waterer inside for the night and put it out again, freshly-filled, in the morning?

For the winter I nailed a small wooden lip around my poop board and added about 1 inch of Stall Dry. I use a cat scoop to sift through and remove the frozen poop and throw it into my compost. I was going to use a cheap cat litter but Stall Dry is more compost and chicken friendly.

My poop scraper is something I made at work. It is a 2' piece of rebar welded to a 6" long by 2" wide piece of flat bar, spray painted a festive glossy black.

I store it conviently on top of the nest box.

LOL that's what I do. I bring them in at night, fill them up and then put them out again in the morning. However, they freeze pretty quickly.

I guess I'm just not being clear.

Anyway...

I'm home today so they're getting plenty of water every few hours.
