Ok, so I posted a not very good picture of our black chickens that we got at Tractor Supply as Black Sex Links the end of October. Mostly thoughts were they were some sort of possible hybrid. Thought I would post some better pics. The girls are quite interesting looking. They're getting pretty large. They're around 7mos old now. Don't think they've laid any eggs yet, unless they did so out in the open part of the run under the walnut trees where they hide most of the time. They are getting bolder, and coming into the main pen area a lot more, but they are very afraid of most of our established birds. They grew up with one of the Golden Sex Links and an Easter Egger. They are all skittish. I just wish I could figure out what they are, because they are NOT BSLs! They have those beautiful dark eyes!

How interesting and exotic looking! I'm noticing a few things, mainly the slate colored legs and single comb. I am VERY curious what color eggs they will lay. I'm surprised they haven't laid yet. Most first year pullets will lay through the winter.

The very light silver on the breast...indicative of a silver sex link female. The male version might be mostly silver over the hackles and saddle area. But those slate legs are really throwing me. What an interesting bird! 🤔

I know... they are so interesting. Yes, those slate, or as I call them black, legs are kind of odd. But its those dark brown eyes that I love so much. Not many breeds have them. They may have started laying, but I just don't know where they would've done so. They definitely do not go into the main coop where most of the ladies lay. I will have to keep watching to see when they do lay, and where.

They're 7 months old and you got them the end of October?
They very well could be BSLs. BSLs are just a hybrid cross that produce barred male offspring and non barred female offspring.
As for what breeds were used? That's pretty hard to say seeing as they're TSC sourced chickens.
