Yes, this is a poop thread. The quality of my pigeons' poop is important to me.

To preface my statement here, I'll say for a while I was supplementing my pigeon feed with Purina Layena chicken layer pellets to give my birds some added probiotics. At first they seemed to pick out the pellets and preferred them over the pigeon feed, then they flopped on that, and started picking out the pellets and only eating their pigeon feed (strange birds). I don't over feed my pigeons, I only give them unlimited access to food when I go out of town or think I won't be able to feed them for some reason. They are all trained to home to my loft, and I am not a racer.

Anyways, I have been feeding only pigeon feed for a while now, with generally good results. I'll see the occasional runny poop, and sometimes a green poop from time to time. Last week I decided to give them one week of only the layer pellets (Purina Layena, with omega 3s and pro and pre biotics) just as a boost to their gut health. Of course, it being their only food option, they ate it. And for one week they all had perfect poops!

So I am thinking that administering a week of layer pellets with probiotics can possibly be helpful for a flocks' gut health, and I just wanted to share that.

Thanks for that. I can't get they stuff here. Just normal layer pellets... but don't think these have the probiotics in them.

My birds have very watery poop... all the time. Mostly just clear water with brown bits in it.

I was worried a lot.. and tired various treatments, including:

deworming (2 different brands to tread different worms)
Bio B 12 powder in drinking water.
Apple cider vinegar in water
changed feed to just grain
Changed feed to just pellets.
Changed feed to a mix of pellets and grain.
Coccidiosis treatment
And, finally, a course of poultry anti biotic powder in water.

None of this helped at all!

But the birds seem very healthy and fat. They are acting normally and lively and don't seem ill.

I live in Thailand... and the temperature is very hot here most days (and nights). Someone told me that because its hot the pigeons drink a lot more water.. that is why they have the watery poop. I have no idea if this is true of not.

If anyone has any other ideas how I can get them to have normal poop I would be very grateful, as I don't like all the mess they are making! Normal poops would simply dry out in the heat and be easy to scrape or brush up and clean the coop.

Have you tried looking for a powdered probiotic for birds for sale online? You mix it into the water and it provides probiotics while they drink.

Purina feeds have poisoned dogs cats rats rabbits pigeons chickens ducks etc I'm probably forgetting.. as former vet assistant I'd advise against most of their feed lines if possible. some cheap wild bird seeds better alone or with scratch, and layer, finding local cheap feeds simple and having a great deal of good feedback from other customers. Purina pays people online n at stores to promote their feeds but top vets breeders n showers do not use their feeds for long if they know their animals and care about their health, as their reps tried paying my boss off to but his clients said they didn't want their animals fed Purina, except two lines and the one kept getting puppies sick so he stopped carrying as asked for by puppy n exotic/show kitten mills. That said I specifically in personal experience uses had bad results using their pigeon feeds with my racers rollers meat and show birds (dogs rabbits chickens ducks etc too). The gold blend (primarily for racing) did give good sugar and fast carb burning in minimal amounts for quick Sprint of young bird training flights and fast recall, but the birds got so exausted they had hard long recovery overnight till late morning checking. I just use chicken layer with scratch and wild bird seed etc.. they eat seeds nuts berries insects fruit greens n more I'm forgetting. Purina refuses to do recalls on huge batches of contaminated feed killing millions of pets in USA alone, unless they are addressed and made public by enough people, but their reps have said "they are just animals, and easier to pay people off rather that recall fix problems and redistribute supply". For breeders that have worked years on perfecting lines to their standards, this answer is unacceptable for working or show lines that can and have been wiped out.
