It has come to my attention that friends of mine are being scammed by bragging breeders (not on BYC) who SAY they have the original birds.... theres more than one breeder who claims this of A & M stock. And get this... the one breeder who claims this doesn't even know how big his breeding stock are, but in the same breath, also says that they are the biggest A & Ms you can get. Um. How is that possible if he doesn't know the weights of the birds? Scam anyone?

The other breeder, sells you his eggs that he does give weights on (that so far from those experiencing them hasnt been big birds like said to be) but other than that ALSO hatched out a bunch of browns and a tuxedo when they boughth strictly large A & M's.

So. for those of you looking for the biggest of the big. Ask for references. If they cannot give them I really suggest looking else where. Breeders like that, that claim to have the best of the best surely should have proof, and feedback claiming exactly the same as the breeders claim.

I am not in coturnix for the meat breeding but many of my friends are, and it just makes me so annoyed seeing people get scammed and these so called breeders profit emensly. Some stating they've been breeding for several decades... yet they cannot even spell the birds name right "courtnie" or whatever... sad.

SO! do your homework peeps. If it sounds too good to be true it may well just be. I also ask, any of you who do buy from any of these "claimers" to show us the results. We'd love to find the real thing some day, but so far... no go???

I think I know one of them you might be talking about.... infact I bought eggs from them a number of weeks ago but have not recieved the eggs yet. If I do get the eggs I'll let you know how the compare. Egg size, chick size, colorations, etc. I'm not too optimistic now that I've learned a think or two on this forum. Not gotten the eggs yet so we'll see if I even get them!

Did your friends get eggs from them? What was their experience?

The egg size would be interesting... Chickens can be huge but not lay good eggs. It does make me wonder if the Texas A&M have been breed as such or if the eggs correspond to their size.

When you measure a quail it is based on live weight isn't it? It would be fun to keep some measurements on these to see what we get.... that is if the eggs do ever arrive. I have to agree thoguh. if you can't get a measurement of the birds.... how do you know they are the biggest?

most weigh the bird live on a scale (least thats how I and some others do it)

and yeppers my one friend bought from the one claimer and inquired the other and decided not to buy from him when he couldnt tell the weights of the birds. THe birds she does have from the one claimer are not impressive in size i guess (but she's going to weigh them eventually and let me know) and also arent the color she paid for. The man says that in his 40 years breeding he has never produced tuxedos so he doesntknwo why she got one from him... along with the browns she also didn't order

Wow.... excited to hear that!

Part of me hopes that it's not the same people

I don't understand why people do this. Eventually someone doing this is going to run out of customers. I don't know how many eggs I have bought on here where the seller doesn't have quite enough eggs and throws in something with the same egg size but different breed. I keep track of them and don't buy from them again.

I understand why they do it (cha-ching!) because newbies will always catch their bait with their flashy ads, and flashy claims....but what i dont understand is why they are comfortable doing that. It urks the crap out of me.

It just bugs me because of the basic reason that i love coturnix so much and when people THINK they can get this monster bird and they pay big money for them and find out that what they ordered isnt what they get i worry that they will get fed up and get out of coturnix.

However, if these customers take the time to accept normal and jumbo sized quail they will be pleasantly suprised IMO... hubby and I just enjoyed about 20 some coturnix quail yesterday

Delish! Btw these were mostly young jumbos... about 8 ounces in weight nothing impressive but you get enough of those and you get a yummy meal
