BEWARE coturnix buyers (for anyone interested in BIG birds)

I was wondering if that was who you were talking about. I live just 40 miles from him, and was going to check them out. When I contacted him, he said he had a 3 week waiting list, and you had to prepay to get on the list. I wanted to look at the birds first, but he seemed not too interested in that. Rude too. I didn't need them anyway. By the way, why did yall have to go there with the Texas comments? Not funny.

I gotta a guy down in south central missouri that I got my eggs from. they are going on 7 weeks and I`m hoping that they`re gonna start layin soon. but they`re huge!

You are kiddin right? A 16oz quail? I`m new to this but is that a Tx 16ozs. My birds areabout the size or a bit bigger than a softball. I don`t know what that would be in ozs? but I think they`re huge compared to my Bob Whites. The guy i got the eggs from ships everywhere, his name is Calvin and his number is 816 316 9909. He`s also on craigs list, he`s real reasonable and a decent guy.

Um. No. read up on coturnix. Your birds sound like normal coturnix, or even just jumbos. Claims like this are sadly why people go out and spend a ton of money on birds and find out they aren't as "huge" as said.

.

what's a Tx 16 oz? Are you meaning A & Ms?

Also what are you bobwhites? Normal bobwhites? If so, those are about the size of the pharoah quail i had, just taller. Now, if your bobwhites are the large butler bobwhites then im interested lol.

Edited again to say, most serious coturnix people go by weight... ounces looking for a bird that's a pound. Not by size sadly.

I am with Monarc23 on being fully aware and informed when purchasing birds. I don't believe I have ever experienced the false advertising like I have seen. I would never sell anything that did not meet up to what I promised.

Be very leary of anyone promising large A&M's unless you have some sort of written guarantee.

I believe you won't get all large birds from any one hatch, but you should certainly get a very high % of large birds if they are supposed to be heavy birds.

I ordered 50 A&M eggs from an online vendor promising HUGE birds and got fewer eggs than I ordered, Jumbo browns hatched out and the rest of the birds were nothing to speak of. I had one that weighed a bit over 10 oz. Of course, the vendor said they would be at least 14 oz or larger.

Texas A&M birds have large wide breast and I think this is their best trait. But a truly large 1lb bird seems to be an illusion!

The Texas A&M is a great bird, but you will probably have to breed them until you get the size and type that you won't. Not sure if you can buy eggs from anyone at this point that consistently produce huge birds.

Might be better to make a list of those whose birds DO get large, that way there's no problem with liability. I'd like to know who has the very largest Jumbo Browns. Mine are big, but of course, I want even bigger.

I did get my eggs 5 weeks later (there wasn't a three weeks waiting list when I purchased these either!) but only 8 eggs of 24 survived shipping. They were placed in a carton and the carton was bubble wrapped however there was nothing to stop the eggs from bouncing around in the carton during shipping. Even I would have broke them with this packaging let alone the postal service! Very disappointed

The rest of the eggs are covered in yolk and just yuck! I don't understand why someone who claims to LOVE their birds so much would not go the extra step to make sure the eggs were safe. These eggs also are not even as big as my jumbos browns. If I get any of them to hatch I doubt the results will be huge birds but I'll keep you all updated.
