Hey all,

If your looking at craigslist or ebay for a used video game system for someone for Christmas be careful. Microsoft just banned a lot of folks from Xbox Live which is their online gaming service for modifying their Xbox 360 systems. The problem with this, is it wasn't the accounts that got banned, but the actual consoles.

These people who illegally modified their Xbox 360's to play pirated software are now going to dump these Xboxes out onto the used market and take advantage of people who want to get what their kids want for Christmas but can't afford to pay for new. Someone will get the system home only to discover they can play any game they want, but only offline. That takes 50% of the games out of the running and may ruin the present.

Now don't get me wrong, if your buying it for a 5yo it might mean you can get a great deal because you don't want them online anyway. So it could work in your favor.

I just don't want to see any of my friends taken advantage of by a deal that looks too good to be true.

If you are looking for an Xbox 360 used this year, ask important questions. Has this xbox been modded? If it has, walk away. (if you think they are being honest). Can this xbox access Xbox Live? When was the last time you accessed Xbox Live with it? Will you take it back if I can not access live with it?

I just wanted to give you all a heads up.
