Beware of the Bradford Pear Trees

Never seen a Bradford Pear with thorns. Hawthorns on the other hand are wicked evil with thorns.

Wanna see a small tree with really wicked thorns? Trifoliate Orange,

We have those to, state tree for Missouri. Only a couple at edge of woods so not a problem. The Honey Locust do take out lawn tractor tires when you drive over them a lot.

I have Autumn Olive too. Those not quite as problematic as the Bradford Pears as I can kill the Autumn Olive relatively easily. Once I get goats in, most of invasive plant issues will stop.

I can kill the Autumn Olive relatively easily

How do you do so?

AO and HS and wild cherry and sumac have taken over my wooded 20 acres,
kept them off the trails for years, but it's now beyond my physical capabilities.
There used to be some 'meadows' out there...all filled in now.
Different scenario than others may have.

Only 'good' thing about AO is that it is easily 'pruned' by breaking with hands while skiing.....if you don't grab a thorn!

Prescribed burn with lost of fuel below the AO's. It apparently takes even more fuel kill the Bradford Pears as they often come back. I am trying to stay away from use of any herbicides as trying to at least say I am organic when it comes to plant management.

I'm sorry to hear about Edgar. Curious to see what you find when you examine him. I had never heard of Bradford pears, so at least someone learned something useful from your post, even if it turns out to be a different cause of death.
