Beware of the Bradford Pear Trees

Sorry for your loss. I can tell you bond with your birds, maybe more so with the guys. This is the second time I've seen you have great concern for one of your boys. Did the other fella heal up OK? The one who went to sleep in your lap.
He came back 100%. I like the girls too, they just do not get into as much trouble.

What is the difference between a cock and a stag...age maybe, like cock and cockerel?
Show people say age with key point being 1 year post-hatch. The cocker grandfather and biologist says it has more to do with molting. Cockerel - cock of most people has one year as the boundary. The game fowl side has stag starting from when you can sex them based on feathering up to point where they molt into their second adult feather set in the second fall of life (usually about 18 months post-hatch). The stags are further distinguished as bull stag once first adult feather set is fully in. There are big behavior changes in the games that are likely a reflection of what Red Jungle Fowl do.

Another reason to dislike them is how short lived they are. A 15 year old tree is on the decline.
A beautiful tree in full bloom though.
I read that bradford pears are infertile on their own but will breed with other plants blooming in the area. Kind of a cross pollination. Maybe this tree crossed with something with thorns?

I hate them too!

I got 5 with chain saw today. They were too slow and unwary. Chain saw needs to be serviced to get more.

I am so sorry for your loss. :hugs

Several years ago a couple of my hens got into the habit of coming down to the house for an early morning greens treat as the others headed out to free range. One of these hens was a 5 year old Black Australorp with absolutely no health issues, good weight, bright red comb, extremely active. They both were running at a good clip as I was on the porch. This hen jumped onto my lap and died in my arms, just dead out of nowhere. I too cut her open and couldn't find a thing. I had to assume heart attack, she was a power house of health. Hearts have defects. I've also had a couple of strokes in my aging flock.
