Hi Guys! Well, my dreams are officially happening. the 6 Emu eggs we ordered are READY FOR PICKUP TODAY! I can hardly contain myself!
If you remember my old post, I bought this incubator from ebay. I was told it was a Reptipro 5000 and then.. It arrived, and it most certainly was NOT a Reptipro 5000, but a "Herp Nursery" Okayy??? Instead of sending it back, I decided it was less a hassle to just try and use it and hope for the best.
So, the last few days I've had it set up, with three thermometers and a hydrometer. I've tried moving it into the spare room, since out in the open the temperature dipped too much in the late afternoon.
Basically, we cannot get the two shelves to be the same. The top one, the closest I can get is 98. and the middle shelf, 95.5 or so. If I turn it up, the top one is too high and the middle is perfect. Turn it down, and the top one is perfect and the middle one is "too low"
Question: Is 98 okay for emu eggs? I know 97.5 is the ideal. I'm okay with the longer incubation of the 95 degree temperature. I've been reading and re-reading emu hatch thread tutorials on here
Also, do you guys recommend me keeping the incubator in a place like the spare room, with the heat on at a level 70 or so? To keep the incubator a consistent temperature?
Third question: how much variability in the temperature can these eggs even take? I'm so worried that we are going to mess this up!!
Thank you ! Probably way more questions to come in the future, sorry!
