If you're in Ohio then it can be the shorter days. But if there are an unusual amount of feathers everywhere then it sounds like they are molting. It seems to be either or both causing the drop in egg production. Either way it's normal and should be no cause for concern.
Egg production should pick back up when they are out of molt and the length of day increases again.
