Bibed call duck wing.

Well awhile ago I had thought that my male call duck had angel wing. I had watched it and it never really turned outwards like angel wing. Some time has passed and ive relized that the feathers that would have the color on them on the right wing are slow glowing compared to the left wing. The smaller female has got all her feathers and their quuite beautiful. His right wing also hangs a tid bit and he seems to be always readjusting it. Im not sure whats going on... Does any one else... The lady i had bought them from said they where magpie calls and ive found from their coloring to be bibed.... Could there have been a breeding issue that could have caused this?

Looks like a genetic issue going on effecting the right wing only. It would be linked back to parents. They are deffinetly not magpies as you have figured out.

Its irritating that she didnt tell me about this. And i felt bad for him because he was always readjusting it like it was irritating him. I just hope it resolves its self and nothing comes of it. With my luck though who knows!

She may not even know. You can't be angry over a genetic issue that might not have turned up before. She may have two brand new adults and these were the first ducklings. There is no way to know what hidden genetic oddities are going on in adult birds. They sprout up and if she doesn't have a duckling with the same issue and you don't politely let her know she won't ever know. As far as correcting itself, probably won't since the other wing is growing normally. It won't effect his pet quality though at all for you though. If you had planned to breed I would encourage getting at a minimum breeder quality call duck or EQ/SQ pair. As your male is very large and has a longer bill than what is standard for calls.

We have a tiny little male call who has down on his chest at 1 year of age. Something is mixed up genetically with him, but he is a spit fire and good pet.

But another issue is that I had remade a CL ad with some more of my runners. She at first was 100% interested found out it was me and never replied back to me... So idk. But I love him and her even though they run away from me lol. Gave them their first watermelon today. He didnt go right for it until a little later on. But once he ate it he was addicted!! I found a 30lbs watermelon at the grocery store so now everyone has enough to go around xD

I wouldn't worry about his wing. Obviously some factor is contributing to the very slow growth there but since it is so specific, just affecting the secondaries and tertials, I don't think it's anything that you are doing (e.g. feed) or can control.

Sometimes ducks have what is called 'dropped wing' which is where the wing slides down a bit and the duck keeps hitching it up. It's kind of like a lazy wing. Sounds like your drake may have a bit of that going on too. There is no health problem in having a wing like that. I wouldn't use your boy for breeding but that's all.

Otherwise, his feathering is in very good condition and it looks like you are doing a wonderful job of looking after your ducks.

I bet they will love that watermelon!!!!

Once they figured it out yesss they did. LOL. the female from what i saw didn eat any, shes not as open to new things i guess. And i out the ends of the watermelon in with my runners, and all you can hear is them sloshing around in it, the bottom floor of the house smelled of watermelon!!!

And I just wanted to make sure that it wasnt somthing i could have contributed to.. And fro what evryones telling me its just there and nothing can really change it. Thanks!!!

Oh, that would be hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!! I must try that next summer (when we have watermelon again....winter here now).

I do not know why the inner feathers on that wing are so slow growing...

It terms of that wing hanging down a bit, I recently asked my vet about that same thing. I have a duck whose left wing hangs down and he is always re-adjusting it as well. The vet called those heavy, outer feathers "blood feathers." He explained that as the wing feathers mature, a large amount of blood is supplied to those outer feathers. This heavy blood supply makes the feathers just that: heavy. Thus, the wing will hang a bit. My vet said not to worry about the drooping - that, in time, the wing will find its way back to the right spot again. So far, my little duck's droopy wing has slowly, but surely, found its own way back to where it should be.

Yeah that seems to have been the case here too. And what about clipping the wings, since they can fly right? I dont need little speedy ducks flying too on me! So im looking into getthing their wings clipped... but not sure if i should with the male because of the slow growth..
