Bielefelder "Mothers"?

I have read in a few articles that Bielefelders are not known to go broody, but "are fantastic mothers once chicks hatch".
I thought the hen had to go broody to keep the chicks warm, and that they would often kill the baby chicks if they were not broody...
Any thoughts?

They aren't likely to go broody, but when they do, and they make it to hatch, they are fantastic mothers.

Maybe I'll know about this personally in a year or so. Getting Bielefelder chicks in May.
Awesome! I have 5 Bielefelder pullets on order for April 13th / 14th (along with 5 Dark Brahma pullets).

I am really hoping a few of my gals are broody by then and can raise them - surely at least 2 of my Silkies will be broody by then..... 😅

Where are you getting your Bielefelders from?

I have a purebred Bielefelder hen sitting on Bielefelder eggs with 4 already hatched. Looks like 3 roos and 1 hen so far. Anyone in Alabama looking for Bielefelder roo chicks for some fresh blood for your flock? I will part with some and can attest that Bielefelder roos are truly the nicest rooster of all.

Thanks! I didn't think about it like that...
"Most Bielefelder owners report little to no broodiness in this breed, even with a whole clutch of eggs. But it’s also noted that these hens are fantastic mothers once chicks hatch."
I have one Bielefelder hen who is broody. Trying to break her; not ready for chicks. But man, she is not happy with me one. little. bit. !
