Bielefelder thread!!!!

Are the eggs large? My biels lay huge eggs.

no, they were really small I think it was because it was there first eggs.

Have to say I love how the eggs my Bielefelder lays look! The variable speckles are so fun! I was doing deviled eggs today and noticed a very freckled one. I’m also impressed with how many eggs Nettie lays. She’s laid 100 since she started on 11/6!

Nice! It's going to be month's yet before mine start laying. How old were your Biel's when they started laying egg's?

She was 7 months when she started laying, so quite late, but she’s been very productive all through the winter!

I recently got this Bielefelder trio from an elderly couple that had to move to town. He told me they were silver Bielefelders. They came from GradeEhFarms up here in Canada-which I know does raise Silver Bielefelders. But without sounding ignorant-these birds in general look “brown” not “grey/silver” to me so I was just curious if they are actually considered silvers or not-especially now that I have this breeding trio. I want to know exactly what I’ve got and therefore what they will produce.

The pictures aren’t the best as they were a bit skiddish and our outdoor run for this pen is filled with snow so they’re locked inside until I finish shovelling. Therefore it’s a bit dark. My apologies.

So glad i found this thread! We are new to chickens and got our first Bielefelders 4 weeks ago. So much personality, they are too much fun!
