Bielefelder thread!!!!

I just bought a bielefelder from Mt healthy hatchery. She's the cutest, sweetest little baby so far. I hope she turns out nice looking! I've never had this breed before. View attachment 4079537View attachment 4079538View attachment 4079539View attachment 4079540

Yes, they are sweet. Even the roosters are nice. I don't have to worry about going in there and getting attacked when I turn my back on them, and the hen's aren't trying to run and hide from them neither. A calm flock is a good thing.

I really wanted to get a boy, but ended up going with a new Hampshire red and brown leghorn cockerel instead. They also threw in a barred rock cockerel. Hopefully they all turn out nice! If not I'll cross her with one of them and try to get a good boy. How are yours at laying?

The egg laying is picking back up now, now that the day's are getting longer. I don't use any artificial lighting on them.

It's supposed to have higher temps here next week, so I guess I will put the misters back up in the run before it really gets hot. I put it on a timer and don't have to set and turn it on until I need too. They are also predicting a good monsoon season this year, but we really do need the rain.

My Bielefelders from Mt. Healthy have been wonderful. I wish I could get some more, but I feel I'm maxed out for my space. Maybe next spring? I said that last year.

I'm so excited for mine. I can't wait to see how she colors out. Are yours pretty stocky? I've seen a lot of hatchery biels that are scrawny. I hope mine isn't like that.

All of them are good sized girls. One is definitely the biggest, one the smallest. I wouldn't call any of them scrawny, by any means!
Oh good! I wonder if ours are related, haha! I'm actually starting them on nutrena meatbird starter, I like to give higher protein the first few weeks. It's 22%. I wonder if that'll help at all.
