I was driving along near my place on a narrow, "slow" winding blacktop road with my vehicle windows down just enjoying the almost sunset cool temps, when a big bobcat darted out from the desert, right in front of me, being mercilessly dive bombed and chased by 2 very angry crows...with the whole lot of them oblivious to me even being there just feet away. The cat was in a panic trying to get away from them and they kept blocking his every twist and turn. The cat made it across the road and bounded up a bank of boulders that fences state land with some mountains, trying to make it to better cover, I'm sure. They chased him back and forth across a good 1/4 mile that I could still see as he headed for the hills...and towards the big waterway he'd have to cross before the hills. Not sure if he took a swim but I wouldn't be surprised if he was forced to in his panic and since the only way around the canal on dry land was a long way away and in the *opposite direction* that they were herding him that whole time. I'm sure the crows were also aware of that little fact. For a second I thought the cat, in his panic to escape them, might jump in my vehicle...while the radio was playing "The lion sleeps tonight"
. Cool song but a bobcat with a crow chaser in my car wouldn't have been my cup of tea.
This is just a random bobcat pic around town...they're so beautiful.
